CAN A WORD KILL?

Hello, my dear Friend! Yes, indeed! If you are with me right now, then you are my friend! Today, we are going to talk about a Prayer. Though it is a religious notion, you may find this article interesting. Here you will rediscover a prayer from a different perspective. Regardless of what religion you belong to, this article will help you reshape your understanding of a prayer. Let`s get started!

What is a Prayer?

According to the online sources, including Wikipedia, a Prayer is an act to communicate and request desired outcomes form God. A prayer can be in the form of a song, statement, words or silent thoughts on one`s mind.

Is it the real Truth? Is it the real Prayer? How should we pray? Why can not all the prayers be answered and fulfilled equally no matter how hard we pray? If you want to find out more, then read the quest to the end and watch our YouTube video about

Why do we pray?

Mostly, we tend to pray when we are helpless or want something that we think is out of our power. Though each and every situation behind a prayer is unique and specific. We want to believe that God is in the Heavens, far from us. This is why we look up and call upon Him to help us.

However, over the years the role and importance of a prayer have changed. If you look back, you will see that many centuries ago a prayer and religion were the essential part of people`s lives all over the world. Nowadays, it has turned into an activity that brings people together in hard times. We would rather stand up and do something rather than sit and talk to an invisible High Power with a dubious nature. I heard of such gatherings. A group of people pray together asking Health, Peace or Harmony in Life. However, I barely know the prayers which people call to praise God. The more civilized we become, the less and less we address to God for help.

Does it work? Can a prayer help you, indeed, make our dreams come true? How should we pray if it is so?

MY JOURNEY WITH A PRAYER

Back in 2000, I was an ambitious teenager and popular for being an incurable believer. I read stories and dreamed about mostly unrealistic, but beautiful lands, ideas and people. I always thought to myself, “I will be successful when I grow up!” Now I wish someone had shaken me and said, “Wake up! You are missing your Life daydreaming! Live now, not tomorrow!”

In expectations of my bright and glamorous future, I promised myself to attend Birthday parties, weddings or any festivities only when I became successful and rich. I looked around, saw “lucky ducks” who were fortunate enough to be born in well-maintained families and had anything they might desire. However, I never tried to change anything about my life. I could never even imagine how to do so. For me, those lucky kids were Blessed-by-God and the Chosen Ones. No one told me that we were all kids like one another that we all had 24 hours per day, a head, two arms, two legs and a couple of eyes no more.

Nevertheless, I had the best escape - my Imagination. Only in that world, I was free, but not happy. If I think about it after thirty twenty years, it seems so ridiculous. Because, I transferred the miseries that surrounded me in the Outer World into my Inner world and made them the same. It took me ten more years to realize that it is us who create our Inner world and this is how we can change our lives! It took me another ten years to learn how to apply it and turn it into a habit.

Anyway, there were happy days when I was able to get what I wanted or do what I desired to do. One of such events occurred when I was in the seventh grade. Three local schools organized a Beauty Contest. I was chosen as the representative of one of them. I still remember that day as if it were yesterday. I forgot to eat, I stopped caring about what was happening around. I did not attend school a couple of days before the contest. My Mom scolded me for not keeping an eye on the dinner and it got burnt. Anyway, I did not care. My whole being, each and every cell of my body wanted only one thing - to win the contest.

A few days before the contest, I was preparing my welcoming speech for the contest. The TV was on, but I did not hear much of it. Even when I was eating, sleeping or preparing a meal, the list with the requirements of the contest was with me. Thus, I had just scribbled the first draft of my speech when suddenly my father changed the channel. I looked up and for an instant my eyes caught a glimpse of a Disney movie. It was Cinderella. I do not know what about you, but I do believe in the SIGNs that are sent from above. To the end of the movie, I forgot all about the contest, preparation, dinner or my drafted speech.

The movie did not distract me, but strengthened my intention and will. From that day on, I was not I any more. I was the Contest. All of my thoughts were all about it. It was like a spell that conquered my whole soul and mind. When I told our neighbors and friends about the contest, they claimed that I had very little chance to win. Doing a little research, I discovered that all the rest of the contestants were from wealthy families. I knew that they had more resources, but I did not care. I still wanted to win. Even though there was a sow voice within me that claimed that it could not be done, it could not make me stop dreaming.

Seeing how strongly I was focused on my mission, my parents took it very seriously. To help me, my Mom took me to a sacred place where a holy man was buried and where people visited to pray. I must say we visited the place a few days before the contest. I can not remember that trip though. Because, there was not me at all. I was the Contest. The only part I clearly recall is my prayer. I was standing near the tomb of that Holy man and prayed to God asked all the Saints to come to help me.

At the end, I won! No, no! I could not win! I could not have won! Because, there was not me at all! I was the Contest! The contest won! Yes, all of the other seven contestants were from rich families. They could have done better. Yes, they were better dressed that I was. Yes, everyone said I could do that, I did not stand a chance. Looking back I feel ashamed, ashamed of listening to other people and grieved instead of God and instead of putting my faith in Him entirely.

We can not exist separately. We can not live all alone. Communication and relationships are a part of our lives. However, it does not mean that we should let other people define us, label us! That is my conclusion of my story.

Why do some prayers are answered and others - not?

In fact, it was one of my thousands of prayers I perform daily. However, not all of them come true or have manifested yet. Why? Nearly, all old scripts and Holy Books state that we are given what we want before we request it. This misunderstanding may cause a false impression about God presenting Him not authentic. For the last decade of my life, I kept pushing myself towards success inspired by my achievements at a younger age. I believed in God and knew that everything would be alright with Him. However, the reality contradicted to the reality. Most days I was so tired that I had no power to pray at all. The more I entered into an independent life and socialized, the less I called upon God and even less I prayed.

Only when I became exhausted, only when I had no more power to go forward or see my future, I gave up. Thus, I returned to prayers. Once I discovered that some prayers may not work, I decided to look into it. Here is what I have learned so far:

#1 A prayer is everything.

Yes! You have heard it right. You might be asking, “how can an animate or inanimate object become a prayer?” You are right, but before that object became an object, it was a prayer. Someone wanted to make it happen and it realized itself in our life.

#2 Words can not always help.

Words sometimes cause misunderstanding. When an old scripture said that we could be given anything we wanted and asked for, it truly referred to something we wanted. Nowadays, we have more terms and more words to indicate specific things and events in certain ways. Thus, we separated the words “need” and “want” from one another.

If you pay attention to the way people pray or ask for something, you will see that not all the things they ask for are the things they need. Let`s say you saw your friend driving a cool brand new car. You said to yourself, “I wish I had a car!” However, the very idea of owning a car did not come to you directly as something you need, but indirectly as an envy or admiration. You may be satisfied by your walking that you never wanted to have a car before.

From another point of view, how can one want what he does not need? How can one need something he does not want? This is how we create chaos around us, wanting what we do not need or needing what we do not want. It seems absurd though. Let me illustrate this with a story.

Once a student rented a room. He liked his room, but not the landlady. She was an old and lonely woman. To keep her guest company, she kept visiting him sharing all her life experiences with him. He, on the other hand, had to listen in sense of respect.

“Oh, Thank Goodness!” -he heaved a sigh of relief once she withdrew one day. “I thought she would never leave!”

The next day, the student came back from his lectures and headed to his room to get some rest.

“Oh, God! She will come to visit me now!” -he scoffed changing. An hour passed there was no sign of her. “Where is she?” -the student asked himself. Another hour passed. The guy became so impatient that he rose and got out to find her))

This is what we call “wanting what you do not need”. If you keep obsessing over your problems, then you need those problems as well as your obsession no matter how badly you do not want to have them!

#3 Are there lucky people and their opposite?

I believed that some people were the chosen ones for they were wealthier, they looked happier and more successful. After learning how we are created and designed, I changed my mind. Each person has 46 chromosomes. We get one chromosome from mother and another- from father. It means One in 46 wins over the rest to come to this life. It means, our birth was our first victory! We are already all the Chosen Ones!

#4 Can God hear only the virtuous people? How about others?

There is NO CONDITION in Faith. If you claim that God does not listen to you because you are not as someone else or keep pointing out reasons for that, then this is only your conditioning or explaining. The first misconception is the fact that God is somewhere far. This is how we alienate Him from us. We can not always keep in our mind that there can be something that can exist everywhere simultaneously.

#5 Everything we say is a prayer.

We use either words or thoughts to pray. Let`s look into this process.

When we sing the words, they are called “lyrics”. When we rhyme them, they are “a poem”. When we write a book, those words are called “a novel or story”. When we make up a sentence, it is a statement. When we use words to pray, they form a prayer. We have found millions of variations of the word “WORD” using them in each and every aspect of our lives. And we will come up with newer and more efficient ways of applying them. However, they will remain words. It forms a simple equation,

Words = lyrics

Words = poems

Words = books

Words = statement

Words = Prayers

Then, we will have

Lyrics = Poems = Books = Statement = Words = Prayers
